I have read several pieces by prophecy watchers, that they believe the Antichrist, the Beast, the final dictator, is actually Judas revived.
SO I took another look at Judas… Kerioth is near Hebron, Judas was a Judean, not a Galilean Even Matthew, formerly Levi, was from Caperneum. I personally think Jesus chose the despised Galileans precisely to point out the problems with both the priests and the Pharisees. His names. Judas Iscariot, Judas son of Simon of Iscariot. He had family ties to Kerioth. It does not answer the question of the rest of his background. We know that he came to Jesus after the first groups; the Galilean fishermen, and that many of the disciples were once followers of John the Baptist, or at least knew of his preaching. We don’t know why Jesus accepted him. If he knew from the first this man would be possessed by Satan himself, and cause fulfillment of prophecy no on saw coming, not even the disciples, why not call him on his sin and send him away? The offer for redemption had to be real: Judas was sent out with the others to preach, to cure afflictions, to deliver demoniacs. He experienced first-hand the power of Christ. Saw him calm the waters, feed people from nothing, and preach a gospel like none before, We first learn of problems with his behavior with the anointing of Jesus by the woman so grateful to him, an anointing for his death and burial as it turned out. John 12:4-6 Why was this fragrant oil not sold for 300 denarii and given to the poor? This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it And before they entered Jerusalem for Passover, and Jesus told them what would happen during Passover…it seems only Judas believed him. Matthew 17:22 When they gathered together in Galilee, Jesus told them, “The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. From that time on, Judas began looking for an opportunity to betray him. Matthew10:4 Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him. ( Just pointing out that Judas was not listed as a Zealot, someone awaiting the Messiah to throw the Romans out) MAtthew 26:14 Then one of the twelve, the one named Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests Matthew 6:71 (Now he said this about Judas son of Simon Iscariot, for Judas, one of the twelve, was going to betray him.) 12:4 But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (the one who was going to betray him) said, 13:2 The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, that he should betray Jesus. 26 Jesus replied, “It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread after I have dipped it in the dish.” Then he dipped the piece of bread in the dish and gave it to Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son. MAtthew 14:22 “Lord,” Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “what has happened that you are going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world? John 6:71 (Now he said this about Judas son of Simon Iscariot, for Judas, one of the twelve, was going to betray him.) This act was a fulfillment of prophecy, tying Judas directly to Satan. (Psalm 41:9 Even My own familiar friend in whom I trusted, Who ate My bread, Has lifted up his heel against Me Genesis 3: 15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her Seed; It shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise His heel.” Now we know of the betrayal, and what the price was, quite an insult as it was the price of a slave harmed by an animal. Of course, as the suffering messiah, the suffering servant, this also was prophetic in nature. Exodus [32] "If the ox gores a male or female slave, the owner shall give his or her master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned. Matthew 26:14-16 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, “What are you willing to give me If I deliver Him to you?” And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver. So from that time he sought opportunity to betray Him Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” Jesus answered them, “Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?” He spoke of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, for it was he who would betray Him, being one of the twelve (John 6:67-71). Then Satan entered Judas, surnamed Iscariot, who was numbered among the twelve. So he went his way and conferred with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray Him to them. And they were glad, and agreed to give him money. So he promised and sought opportunity to betray Him to them in the absence of the multitude (Luke 22:3-6). And Judas, who betrayed Him, also knew the place; for Jesus often met there with His disciples. Then Judas, hawing received a detachment of troops and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, Came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons. Jesus therefore. knowing all things that would come upon Him, went forward rind said to them, Whom are you seeking? They answered Him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus said to them, l am ‘He.’ And Judas, who betrayed Him, also stood with them (John 18:5-6). Betrayed in the house of his friends, indeed. Jesus warned his followers to get swords, He knew Judas could identify every one of them as well. The apostles and followers were in grave peril with His arrest. John 17:12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. 27:3 Now when Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus had been condemned, he regretted what he had done and returned the thirty silver coins to the chief priests and the elders, 4 saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood!” But they said, “What is that to us? You take care of it yourself!” 5 So Judas threw the silver coins into the temple and left. 27:6 The chief priests took the silver and said, “It is not lawful to put this into the temple treasury, since it is blood money.” 7 After consulting together they bought the Potter’s Field with it, as a burial place for foreigners. 8 For this reason that field has been called the “Field of Blood” to this day. 11:13 The Lord then said to me, “Throw to the potter that exorbitant sum at which they valued me!” So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them to the potter at the temple of the Lord. Jesus was not the only one hung on a tree (the cross) so was Judas. Unlike Jesus, properly buried the same day, his corpse hung until it bloated and exploded. Deut 21: 22"If a man has committed a sin worthy of death and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree, 23 his corpse shall not hang all night on the tree, but you shall surely bury him on the same day (for he who is hanged is accursed of God), so that you do not defile your land which the LORD your God gives you as an inheritance. Judas was replaced by Matthias. So much for divine election! Acts 1:25 to assume the task of this service and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place. Woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born (Matthew 27:24). One of the titles of Judas is “son of perdition” The word perdition means “eternal damnation” or “utter destruction.” It can also be used as a synonym for hell. When a person is called “son of perdition,” the connotation is that of a person in an unredeemable state, someone who is already damned while he is still alive. https://www.gotquestions.org/son-of-perdition.html And we will see the term again in the New Testament, Let no man deceive you by any means; for that day shall not come except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition." — 2 Thess. 2:3. But Judas is not given the title of the man of sin, or the beast, or any of the Antichrist titles. We need to understand perdition, and what ” going to his own place” meant, to decide if he is the antichrist. He started out as a thief, a covetous person, and desirous apparently of the status of Jesus of Nazareth, and refused to understand the sacrificial and holy nature of Jesus’ mission. The priests used him as a spy and traitor, but there is no indication he was a priest; yes he was allowed into the temple to see the priests ( and captains..maybe the Roman authorities), they were looking for an answer to the Jesus problem, of course they let him in. He was angry that, instead of jail or public shaming..whatever he thought he was doing to force Jesus’ hand, or pay him back for publicly calling him out about the woman with perfumed oil, and her service to Him, it is more likely that hanging himself was not an imitation of Jesus’ death, but pronouncement of his sin, in the horrible manner of death, reserved for the gravest crimes. Some people think it was months before he killed himself, if so, he rejected Christ’s sacrifice and offer of forgiveness, if before Christ’s death, how awful that he only had days to wait, but in his anger and grief killed himself. Was Satan still driving him? We only have 2 recorded instances of Satan personally indwelling a human, Judas and the Antichrist (as well as the snake in the garden of Eden), he hates us, and he probably left him as soon as Judas bestowed the traitor’s kiss. Alone, abandoned, facing what he had done. And sent straight to perdition (hell). No great throne judgement, nothing. The Antichrist comes to power, already condemned, a son of perdition, He is not indwelt by Satan until the mid-point of the Tribulation, he like Judas, assumes his will is correct, and that doing any and everything for power is worth it..the Antichrist, unlike every other human being, is irredeemable, already consigned to the Lake of Fire. To have God say you are dead, while you yet live….how awful. The main point about Judas..he is Jewish, The Antichrist comes from the dominant world power..revived Rome.It would be easier to fit Judas in as the False Prophet..he has the knowledge, the Jewish heritage, ( the false prophet arrives from the earth..Israel, the Antichrist rises from the sea..gentiles). But as I can find nothing that makes him of the lineage of priests, not even this holds up. Judas is a lesson in humility, in truly following Christ, our Lord and Savior, not going our own way and thinking…I will make it all right, I will fix what God got wrong,…when God isn’t wrong, no matter how it appears to us. Judas was used to fulfill prophecy. His very nature guaranteed the outcome, Satan just pushed him over the top, trying to ensure his own will..killing Jesus, was performed. And allowed the greatest gift to mankind, the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, to occur. We don;t need to "force" prophecy, God;s got this. |
