I have been thinking about the use of words, and how they frame what we think and feel.
Basically, people don;t like President Trump because he is a rough and crass speaker. Yet he is compared to Adolph Hitler, one of the most mesmerizing speakers of all time. I don;t think the speeches or the policies are similar in any way. But once keyed to perceive anything outside the norm as frightening, those who want it to be so, so life will return to normal (if you get rid of that abrasive man,) are fraught with emotions fear, anger....nothing resembling rational thought. So do you want silken words to comfort you on your way into oblivion, or do you want truth even if it crashes in your ears? Speech patterns can tell us many things. One of Mrs Clinton's problems on the campaign trail was her sparse, unfeeling language. Once I figured it out, it made sense, She wasn;t speaking she was parsing.,,. thinking like a lawyer, so that nothing could be said that shouldn;t be said, She is a lawyer after all. Once freed of the campaign she began using more provocative language, and actually seems more human for it, President George Bush was often mocked for his pitiful speech giving skills. Once he left office, it seems his ability to speak has returned to normal. President Obama, who came to fame with a speech at the Democratic National Convention, was often taunted for not being able to speak without his teleprompter. He also seems to have an easier time of it now that he is out of office. We can draw some conclusions about these people, and politics in general, Stumbling and only keeping track of a script implies... it not being their own words, not what they wanted to say... (all have speechwriters, not the point, President Kennedy, President Reagan, Tip O Neill, Hubert Humphrey, even Newt Gingrich, always seemed to have mind and words together, cohesive, while President Clinton, a truly fine speech giver, sometimes reverted back to parsing, like his wife.) If they were told what to say,, who told them what to say? Who was really in control of the public speeches? Were President Bush and President Obama as much in control as we assume a President should be, or were they used as talking heads? It should worry you. Proverbs 12:22 Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight. |
