So, in its wisdom, the current administration has decided it would be a great idea to send "food boxes" instead of giving people EBT cards which can be abused.
Let's set a baseline. At the height of the recession, 2014, 2.5 percent of the budget was spent on SNAP.It is by no stretch a major budget item. The program is run by individual states. They are closer to the actual people involved than the federal government,, in Washington DC. And their politicians can get the grief much more directly if they mess up! And my oh so conservative friends are in paroxysms of joy. Yeah stick to those losers and liars! While Democrats..who approved of Michelle Obama, NOT an elected official, changing the school lunch program, with ideas that were a total failure.... (I might add, Gates waving money around for Common Core, developed by a friend of his is just as egregious.) In that case, food stamps are a welfare program and you must never take away a"right" even if it not helping people. In other words, MORE government involvement is probably not going to help. Biometrics apparently scared people. It is close to the Mark after all, but in this case, I would choose it over government food packages. Some people cannot eat beans, Some cannot drink milk and some are allergic to peanut butter.. main staples of WIC. A one size fits all solution, sucks. Some people are never going to be able to leave their situations, Elderly on fixed incomes, the disabled. Yet those who hate welfare insist they are rare, most people are adults and able to work and just won;t. This from the American public so hot to legalize marijuana they can;t see straight. Let's all get high! But for the poor.. how dare you? And it might even be true to a degree. But it has a different source than statistics, and that..our belief systems, matters. In case you think food stamp fraud is new, in the 70's when I was in college, a number of students qualified. In some cases, they declared independence from their parents in order to qualify for welfare..people I knew. not just rumors.. And they would go to downtown Columbus, and wait.Someone would buy the food stamps, giving them some cash, not full value, for them. The state of sinfulness, greed, and yes, desperation, is not restricted to just the poor. If you resent someone getting a benefit ( which is already demeaning and restricting) because you have to work for everything you get, that resentment could be used to change conditions..open up a food bank, stocked with donated food, Encourage your church or civic organization to get involved, making sure at least your own families have enough to eat. Get a better job. Or it can lead you right into issues of sin, Pride of life being one ( you are better than them, they therefore are not in any way your problem) Lust of the eyes. covetousness. You think it isn;t fair that you have to work and they don't. Therefore, you turn those eyes on another's belongings... even the food they eat. Lust of the flesh. You a hungry, I know, but if you want to tear food from another's mouth, you have reduced yourself to the level of a beast, a thing without reason. 1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. We KNOW most people are unbelievers. rocked by a feeling of never having enough, never having anything, you bet they will do anything they have to to get what they need Survival basics.. fear and angst. They turn it into a lifestyle, They think, like prostitution, drug use, abortion, etc, that it only affects them, so everyone. butt out. Christians are supposed to know better We are dependent on the Lord not the government, or the society we live in, We are to bring light, not darkness. Deuteronomy 15:11 "For the poor will never cease to be in the land; therefore I command you, saying, 'You shall freely open your hand to your brother, to your needy and poor in your land.' Jesus quoted this, in Matthew, look it up. Some people will never get better, Some will never give up drug use. Some never have a chance, depending on where they grow up etc. I am reading Jeremiah. What a time he had, obeying God, while his entire generation mocked him. One thing he told the people of Jerusalem, was that because of their rebellion, their idol worship, their elitism, that God would remove them, but give the poor a way to live in the land. Jeremiah 40: …9Then Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, swore to them and to their men, saying, "Do not be afraid of serving the Chaldeans; stay in the land and serve the king of Babylon, that it may go well with you. 10"Now as for me, behold, I am going to stay at Mizpah to stand for you before the Chaldeans who come to us; but as for you, gather in wine and summer fruit and oil and put them in your storage vessels, and live in your cities that you have taken over." 11Likewise, also all the Jews who were in Moab and among the sons of Ammon and in Edom and who were in all the other countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant for Judah, and that he had appointed over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan.… Babylon had mercy on the poor, They did not take them off the land,, Poor people took over homes and towns and food growing areas. Obviously, this kept food and taxes flowing back to Babylon. But why did it take an invading force to treat these people decently ...something the rulers in Jerusalem had not done? Let us deal with the poor in realistic and uplifting ways, improving schools, opportunities for work, and drug rehabilitation. hands open, let us not resent the amount it takes to keep them fed. If you allow anger at one unrighteous person using welfare in any way you find..wrong, you are giving in to the spirit of the age It is a type of greed, to want other people to suffer unless they "measure up" in your opinion. You are blinded by the devil, Satan , We see the results ...inner city neighborhoods that are cesspools, coal mining areas in anguish, Native Americans in pitiful conditions, elderly people unloved and unfed. You are as blinded by a belief as liberals are. Either, as Christians, we believe all human beings are made in the image of God, and all can come to salvation (and therefore have value) and we trust in the Lord of Heaven for our sustenance,,or we are, like the unsaved, brute beasts with no understanding. 2 Peter 2 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; and finally, Proverbs 19;17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again. . |
