We have now so confused pets with people, worshipping our four legged and feathered and other creatures, that we seem to have no boundaries at all when it comes to them, We will spend our children’s college fund on cancer treatments, buy dog caskets,( when we want cremation or being buried in a pod that turns into a tree…for humans) and in general seem to think there is no difference in people and animals. Romans 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. So if you were betting I couldn’t find a Bible verse to illustrate my point..you lose. Here are some of the areas that concern me. (Social media is wonderful but allows a lot of...weirdness to go unchallenged, and teaches others they can do that too.)

Bitch moves around.,.give her calcium, think the birthing is too slow, give calcium. I do not think turning our bitches into sows contained in a farrowing stall and unable to move, is a good model for dogs. These are by and large, pets; they might miss contact with their owners, they might be too warm, they might need to potty more often… they might get bored. So; we give a magic pill to make them stop? Instead of checking on conditions, reassuring them, doing whatever needs to be done? We had one girl who delivered pups but did not stop bleeding, I was at the vets by 8:30 AM, she required oxytocin, antibiotics, a bolus for hydration,, and then she was fine turned the corner, did well with her litter. In the middle of my fear and angst, the vet says, well, if you breed her again just give calcium during labor and she might be OK. do WHAT? Breed our beloved girl again? Take a risk on her life? That was a big no thanks..let me tell you, she was spayed asap and was our great friend and companion until a little over a year ago. I will remember the tums trick if I think there is a problem and can’t get to a vet..we have no 24 hour vets here, no emergency vets….so another tool in the tool kit is welcome. But not as a standard procedure. One older breeder help if a bitch is fussy, is to give B complex and C. Even baby vitamins will work, and that seems so much safer to me. As well, foods with a lot of natural calcium are safe..cottage cheese, etc.. And I do like to offer yogurt to the moms, as I do for the pups., But not supplemented calcium. It used to cause eclampsia, given during pregnancy. Once again, I think people think that a bitch is a milking machine and you just ignore her except for feeding until the pups get big enough you can sell them, and no one is teaching/mentoring on socializing, care of lactating moms, etc, I feel sad, Home raised pups should be the very best pets anyone could ask for,. But they can be as ignored as some in puppy mills if no one is willing to teach proper care… Don’t breed your dog if you do not have a vet and hopefully some experienced breeders that you trust, and can call on. https://www.dpca.org/BreedEd/articles/45-breedinggenetics/196-birthing-process 4.wormer to cure giardia and coccidiosis I learned something new, safeguard is used for giardia, I would not be happy with not giving flagyl, but some vets want a two-step treatment, which I will keep in mind, I don’t think just coating the gut, which is what safeguard does ( works sometimes for diarrhea too ) is enough, but this is how folks are treating giardia ( a protozoan) it’s pretty endemic in the US, oh the other thing recommended is frequent washing, I would never put a sick puppy in a bathtub, but soaping and rinsing off butts; that’s doable., http://www.revivalanimal.com/product/giardia/ For coccidiosis, you need Albon. Quit screwing around with the wormers. This is where that social media knowledge can be a dangerous thing. Coccidia or giardia is a diarrhea that smells terrible, if you smell it, go to the vet, please…and if you ever get sued for a sick pup because you thought safeguard was enough…you will learn, economy does not always pay. Here is my point..we have pet owners treating animals like people, and breeders treating their pets like livestock. Common sense and responsibility seem totally out of balance, just as we humans seem so out of balance right now .There is a cost to the sin nature that shows up in nature, and it seems to be at something of a crisis level right now. Nature is under a curse just as humans are. So enjoy your pets, enjoy having new little lives to raise if you feel you can do that, but never forget….to keep your spiritual side and your corporal side balanced |
